1.21.2011 – 1.23.2011
Eric “Guitar” Davis is at Beale On Broadway on both Friday (1.21) and Saturday(1.22). Although most bars have had to adopt a no-smoking profile, this is not the case for the Beale and many other smaller bars. They have a 5-year exemption. So if you want your Blues and don’t want to smoke outside, check out Eric “Guitar” Davis and the Troublemakers this weekend at the Beale.
Eric and the fellas as he likes to call them, puts on a good show and has been a bi-monthly staple at the Beale. He brings an active style of Blues mixed with soul and a little bit of funk to the stage. Typically the house is pretty packed at the Beale. The house beer special is the $4 24 oz PBR.
Aaron Kamm and the One Drops are across the street at BB’s. Take your Blues and slosh it around a good dose of reggae, sometimes not. In any case, they are about one of the more dance-able bands around these here parts. Like their fun album, “Grow”, they can change track to track and it is all good. Aaron Kamm and the One Drops are at BB’s Jazz, Blues and Soups on Friday (1.21)
Kim Massie will be at the new Brandt’s on the Delmar Loop in University City Friday night (1.21). Sure, it is the same building, same layout, but it isn’t the same old Brandt’s. The personal nature of Kim’s shows lends itself to this building. It is nice that Brandt’s is back in play as that has always been one of my main draws to the Loop and with Riddle’s Penultimate ”closed until forever”, Brandt’s bringing the music is a great thing!
Saturday night at Brandt’s you can pick up the fine Jazz stylings of the Peter Schlamb Trio. This will be a laid back set of music that is good to listen to while talking to friends in hushed voices while watching the band. I did mention that Peter Schlamb plays the vibraphone right? “Vibes” are the quintessential jazz instrument as opposed to the xylophone which is not. So when you check out Peter’s ax, be sure to call it by the right name.
Sunday As Usual
This Sunday may I suggest that you mosey on down to BB’s Jazz, Blues and Soups for whatever Aaron Williams and the Hoodoo are dishing out. They hail from the party town of Madison, Wisconsin. I am not kidding, Madison, Wisconsin is all about good party action. Something about light beer, cheese turds and the University of Wisconsin combine into a lot of fun worth checking out if you are up yonder. In any case, these guys have good game.
I think Aaron Williams and the Hoodoo is the Sleeper “Best Bet” this weekend. Sunday night Blues at BB’s is always a good time.
